One of my favorite of the Toon books! I loved finding the famous cartoon characters scattered throughout the book :)
We love the Toon books in our house. they appeal to a wide range of readers of this was no exception. There's a lot to look at in this story. I find my early reader spending as much time reading as actively looking at the pictures and just overall highly engaged in the story.
Last year I had trouble liking the comic-style early readers, but I liked this one. The text seems to be easier to navigate than others I've seen.
And, I too enjoyed looking for the cartoon characters. Having adult appeal makes it more likely to be read WITH an adult.
I loved this - seemed like it would have real appeal to kids. I'm glad that the Geisel committee will consider these graphic novels as Easy Readers! Too bad Cybils won't...
This one didn't click for me-- there was so much running past various people and animals that I was done before the book was. It felt like a really long one trick pony. I can see that it would have appeal though.
Luke on the Loose is packed with action that children would enjoy. I especially liked seeing the different parts of New York City and how Luke ran around in his own world amidst the busy-ness of the adult crowds.
Luke on the Loose makes New York City accessible and fun for children. Luke's adventures show the diversity of the city and the range of caring adult responses he encounters. The book presents a clear conflict and a smooth (and funny for adults) resolution. Luke could easily appeal to a wide range of child audiences.
Wow. That is all that I can say. Unbelievably empty of content. Not what I would call a quality early reader by any stretch of the imagination.
