Okay, so I liked this one! I felt like it followed the award criteria especially with keeping a rhythm. I could see this being used in a story time as a sort of “chant”.
I liked the rhythm, too, Clare, but I was a little disappointed that chicken's scratching didn't have a purpose; I was hoping her scratching would have helped with the gardening in some way, in the end -- maybe I've been reading too many Mock Newbery nominees!
:)
I was disappointed that chicken didn't show her true chicken nature by eating the bugs.
Jamie at TUFW: I thought this book was a delightful read. It had repititious lines in it although, I do agree with Kris because I thought that that scratching would have helped in some way as well. I enjoyed the illistrations because Earl and Pearl changed outfits to go with the weather and their pumpkin plants grew as the weather began to get colder.
