After reading, some of these books find their way onto this blog before being added to the permanent Library collection or given as gifts to the participants in our book programs.

We've checked this book out a few times now (I probably should just buy it)! My daughter and I love the story. Last night we alternated pages while reading it. She sometimes gets intimidated by several lines of text on a page but is always pleasantly surprised when she doesn't struggle reading it.
I found this to be a cute, clever story, not in the "traditional" beginning reader format, but still appropriate. The text is not overwhelming, new words are introduced gradually and repeated, and the story is interesting and fun.
The story was well-suited to discussion-- what other colors might the penguin see? What do you think that splash of orange is? etc.
